INTRODUCING OUR

Vessel Solutions

Having our background in the maritime space, we are used to not only working with naval architects, but building and supporting our own vessels. With our background, we have a number of naval architects, shipyards, boat yards and manufacturing facilities around the world we can turn to for solutions. We can offer everything from a composite pirogue to a modern aluminium hulled anti-piracy vessel.

SSR can offer these vessels through it’s network of strategic partners and will either manage the build or procurement process on your behalf or deal with them directly to supply the required vessel.

Some of the vessels we believe will be of interest to the project in the greater West African region and specifically the Niger Delta region, are described below. They are either vessels in our own portfolio or are vessels we have been intimately involved with through other companies over the years. We know all of these vessels and have either built them, are currently building them or have plans afoot to build them.

The Ashanti

The Ashanti is a composite replacement pirogue. Following trips to multiple countries where the perils of travel in old fashioned wooden pirogues has been experienced and observed, a plan was developed to manufacture a composite replacement. The vision was for a vessel that would first and foremost be stable and safe while still being cost effective and robust. This project is currently in the development phase. Key aspects of this project are: ease of manufacture, low cost, excellent stability, good carrying capacity, ease of assembly and transport.

The Espada

The Espada is a 6.8m composite fishing boat developed specifically for Africa. We
produce the boat locally in South Africa and have several different versions we are able to offer. At its most basic level, it is a tiller fisher that is run with a 25 hp Enduro motor. It can however also be configured to be a centre console sports fisher with a 80 hp motor.
At the moment there are 4 unique versions:

  • The Tiller Fisher
  • The Transporter
  • The West African Fisher
  • The Sports Fisher

It is a unique boat in that its class, we are the only supplier that can ship 5 boats in a 40 ft container. This is a game changer in that no one else can transport boats overland to remote locations as easily and as efficiently as we can from a cost point of view.
This boat can also be supplied with a Bimini and solar panels to power cooler boxes and navigation equipment. This is a bespoke system we designed for our West African customers. It is very robust and simple – a game changer in the right hands.

9.5m Centre Console RHIB

The 9.5m RHIB was developed at our composite facility for an African military application. It is a modern, sea-going boat with an optimised monohull shape, purpose designed for heavy seas and harsh conditions. The hull and all
fittings are built to exacting Marine Class standards. It can be equipped with a range of different Twin Outboard engines (petrol or diesel) depending on your specific and unique requirements. It carries 10 and is fitted with 2 x 250 litre fuel tanks.

Senegal 23

The Senegal 23 is designed as a composite replacement to the traditional wooden Senegalese fishing pirogues, the Senegal 23 takes a well proven design and produces it in a modern way. What makes this boat unique is that it has been broken into modules so it can be transported more easily and also to make local manufacture easier. It has
an inboard diesel engine and can be at sea for several days with ease.
As its name implies, it is 23 m in length, has a 3.6 m beam and a draft of 0.8m. It has a cargo carrying capacity of 10 tonnes and is powered by a 70 hp (min) inboard diesel.
The holds are insulated and designed for fish. They could however be adapted to
transport other goods such as dry bulk cargo or break bulk cargo.

Modular Landing Craft

The Modular Landing Craft has been designed for use on African rivers where
access is difficult. Being modular it can be packed into containers and then assembled 12 on site. It has a high carrying capacity (5 tonne), is very robust and can be fitted with a number of different propulsion options. It has HDPE pontoons and a steel sub frame.
Powered by twin diesel outboards this is the ideal African workhorse for vehicle
transport across rivers, passengers or the transportation of break bulk cargo

Landing Craft 11m & 15m

This aluminium Landing craft design has stood the test of
time. It has a very efficient hull and has good dynamic handling. Its load carrying
capacity is good and it can be configured in a number of different ways depending on
requirements. It can also be powered by petrol or diesel outboards.

16m Ferry

This is a versatile hull platform that can be configured in a number of different ways too. We make this hull in Aluminium as well as composites, depending on the application. It can be configured to be powered with Z drives or Outboards
(diesel or Petrol). In its most basic form, with an aluminium hull, it has been used as an open topped passenger landing craft for island transfers. At the other end of the scale, in composite form, it has been used as a luxury ferry.

27 m Ferry

Our 27m low wash ferry was designed for use on African rivers for the transportation of commuters. In service in Abidjan, this ferry has proven its robustness and serviceability. It also provides a versatile platform and can be configured in multiple formats depending on requirements for example, commuter ferry, restaurant / tourist cruiser, moped ferry, clinic boat.

Barges

Partnering with one of the largest barge operators and manufacturers in the
United States, we are able to offer a wide range of new, used and charter barges, either self-propelled or supplied with pushers or tugs. Sizes range from small to large 3000 tonne units.

Modular Barges

Working with Wale Marine, we are able to offer a variety of modular barges, with or without cranes, self-propelled or for use with a tug or pusher. We will work with Wale Marine and our naval architects to design and construct any
configuration of barge required.

Container Barges

Once again, working with Wale Marine, we are able to offer a variety of modular barges for containers, with or without cranes. In addition our infrastructure
specialists are able to build wharves and shore side facilities, including container
handling cranes for the loading or unloading of container barges.
